Eight people is the number where planning stops being easy. Below it, you book a table. Above it, you need a plan — because someone in that group is fifteen, someone is sixty, one person hates being the centre of attention and one person will absolutely make it a competition.
The instinct is to find the one activity everybody likes. That activity usually doesn't exist. The better move is to split.
Split the group, don't average it
An activity chosen to offend nobody usually delights nobody either. Two activities running side by side, with people picking or rotating, beats one compromise every time — and it means the loud half and the quiet half both get an hour they'd have chosen.
Our escape rooms take 2 to 8 each and there are three of them, so 24 people can be playing at once in separate teams. Add the VR floor and Lava Floor and the whole group is occupied simultaneously rather than queuing.
Ages
- Escape rooms and VR are recommended from 13 up.
- Lava Floor plays from age 6, with a parent along for under-13s — which is what makes a mixed family group workable.
- There's no upper limit worth mentioning. The oldest player usually spots the thing everyone else walked past.
A plan that works for a birthday or a family day
Book two escape rooms back to back for the teenagers and adults, put the younger half on Lava Floor at the same time, then swap. An hour each way, everyone has a story, and nobody spent the afternoon watching other people have fun.
What it costs a head
Escape rooms and VR from $24 a person on weekdays, $30 on weekends and public holidays. Lava Floor from $13 weekdays and $17 weekends and public holidays. Everything is at Marina Square, #03-149, two minutes from Esplanade MRT with food on every floor — which matters when you're moving a group of twelve who are all hungry at different times.
