Most corporate venue shortlists are built from photos and a capacity number. Both are misleading. A room that holds 60 for a dinner holds about 25 for anything where people need to move, and the photo never shows the pillar.
Here's the shorter list of things that actually decide whether the day works.
Ask these five things
- Can the space run more than one thing at once? A venue with a single room means a single activity, which means a queue.
- What's the real capacity for the format you want — not the banquet number?
- How far is it from an MRT station? Every extra ten minutes of travel loses you people at both ends of the day.
- Who runs the activity — your staff, or theirs? Facilitation is the difference between a session and a shrug.
- What happens if headcount changes in the final week? It always changes in the final week.
Function room versus activity venue
A hotel function room is a blank space you have to fill. That's fine if you're running a conference — you need the blankness. It's expensive and awkward if what you actually want is for people to do something together, because you then have to bring in an activity, a facilitator and equipment, and pay for the room on top.
An activity venue is the opposite trade. The space is already shaped around the thing you're doing, the people running it do this every week, and there's no separate hire fee for a room you're only using as a container.
What our floor at Marina Square actually holds
Three escape rooms at 2 to 8 players each, a free-roam VR floor at 2 to 4 a game, and two Lava Floor rooms — all running at the same time under one roof. That parallelism is the point: it's what lets a group of forty be busy simultaneously instead of standing in three queues.
We're at 6 Raffles Boulevard, #03-149, two minutes from Esplanade MRT and connected under cover to Suntec, Millenia Walk and the Esplanade — so lunch, dinner and drinks are all solved without anyone getting into a taxi.
Budget
Escape rooms and VR run from $24 a person on weekdays and $30 on weekends and public holidays. Lava Floor is from $13 weekdays, $17 weekends and public holidays. There's no venue hire on top of that — you're paying per player for what people actually do.
